Suspension Bridge Becomes Obsolete After Motorable Bridge Construction in Dang

Dang. The suspension bridge connecting Jangrehwa of Rajpur Rural Municipality and Jahare of Lamahi Municipality in Dang, which was once a boon, has now become disused. After a motorable bridge was built here, the suspension bridge, which was an effective means of connecting Lamahi and Rajpur, has become disused, locals say.

A few years ago, when most places on the Rapti River were crossed by risky boat journeys, the suspension bridge made it very easy. Locals say that the suspension bridge has now become disused after a concrete motorable bridge was built about 100 meters away from the same bridge.

"This bridge used to be used a lot, it was like a boon," said Ramesh Budha, a resident of Rajpur, "but it has stopped being used after a motorable bridge was built nearby." He said that although this bridge used to make crossing very easy, it has become dilapidated after it stopped being used. This bridge connected Rajpur Rural Municipality with the highway when there was no direct road connection.

Budha said that since the bridge is currently disused, it would be easier for citizens traveling by boat if it could be dismantled and taken to a place where there are no bridges. "There are no bridges in many places, but since there are two bridges in one place here, it seems feasible to transfer it to another location," he said, "If it can be dismantled and taken to a place without a bridge, it would be easier for the citizens there."

He drew the attention of the concerned bodies, stating that in most places in this area, people still have to rely on boats. According to him, the 280-meter-long bridge was built at a cost of Rs 35 crore. After the construction of this bridge, it has become easier for vehicles to travel. One can also travel to the Hulaaki Highway by crossing the same bridge.

The motorable bridge was constructed here about four years ago. Although the bridge has been constructed, the road in the same area has not been upgraded. One can travel to various border crossings connected with India from here.
