Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene Launches Mobile Ringtone Campaign to Raise Awareness About Bird Flu

Kathmandu. After bird flu infection started being confirmed, the Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene has started broadcasting public awareness messages through mobile ringtones to prevent the infection from spreading to humans.

Through the ringtone heard when making a phone call, measures to prevent bird flu, not to come into direct contact with infected, sick or dead birds and chickens, not to go near dead birds if seen, to inform the concerned bodies if suspected, and to pay special attention to personal hygiene have been urged, the ministry has informed.

Similarly, it has been requested to eat poultry meat and eggs only after cooking them well, and to contact the Hello Health toll-free number 1115 for more information or consultation regarding bird flu.

Minister of Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta said that as bird flu infection has been confirmed in various districts of the country recently, the public awareness message broadcast through mobile ringtones has been started with the objective of not spreading unnecessary fear among the general public and to provide correct information about the risk of infection.

The government has informed that it has intensified the campaign to destroy bird flu infected chickens and other birds, increase surveillance in the affected areas, mobilize technical teams, and strictly enforce biosecurity standards.
