Press Union concerned over FNJ report on Acharya
Kathmandu - The Nepal Press Union (NPU) has taken serious exception over the report made public by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) on its central member Suraj Acharya.
Issuing a press release today, NPU general secretary Ajaya Babu Shivakoti said the six-point report by FNJ has made an ill-effort to give clean cheat to Acharya, who was indicted for misusing media for financial irregularities.
The NPU has also stated that the FNJ has attempted to dismiss the case without mentioning as to what circumstances and pressure were created for Acharya to make financial bargaining with the concerned people.
Expressing serious concern over the incident, which it said makes a mockery of the Nepali journalism sector, the NPU has demanded the FNJ carry out fair and independent investigation into the case.
Press Union has also called on Press Council Nepal to investigate into the case and make public the facts behind the incident.
Meanwhile, the Union has expressed grief over the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA)'s act of giving torture to media persons of newsabhiyan.com in regard to the publication of a news report on the CIAA by mobilizing police force.
