Former Cricketer Shakti Gauchan Announces Candidacy for Rupandehi Cricket Association President

Butwal. Former international cricketer Shakti Gauchan has announced his candidacy for the post of President of the Rupandehi Cricket Association.

Gauchan announced his candidacy for the post of president in the association's election to be held on Jestha 25, at a press conference organized by Lumbini Khukuri Club Belahiya in Bhairahawa today.

Gauchan said that he entered the election to solve the problems faced by cricket players and for the overall development of cricket in the district. Stating that he has contributed to the development of Nepali cricket for more than two decades, he said that he wants to do more effective work at the leadership level.

He pointed out that adequate physical infrastructure is necessary for conducting cricket competitions and said that Nepali cricket is making a distinct identity at the international level. Mentioning that Rupandehi district is known as an important center for producing cricket players, he said that he will play a role in producing more talented players from the district.

Gauchan expressed his belief that he can work more effectively by reaching the leadership, stating that he has been continuously working for cricket development with selfless dedication.

Earlier, the current president of the Rupandehi Cricket Association, Haribahadur Thapa, had also announced his intention to re-contest for the post of president. Thapa presented his claim for leadership for another term through a press conference organized in Bhairahawa on Friday.

In the election held four years ago, Thapa had won the post of president by defeating his then-rival Shakti Gauchan. This time too, the main competition for the leadership of the association is expected to be between Gauchan and Thapa.
