Baglung Traffic Police Take Action Against Modified Motorcycles Emitting Loud Noise

Baglung. The District Traffic Police Office, Baglung has taken action against motorcycle riders who have changed their form (modified) and are causing noise pollution by emitting loud sounds.

As complaints have increased in recent times about motorcycle riders making loud noises and causing noise pollution in the Baglung bazaar area at night, the traffic police have launched a campaign to apprehend and take action against the riders.

In the last two days, 10 motorcycles have been impounded and sent to the Transport Management Office for action, said Senior Sub-Inspector Min Bahadur Kunwar, chief of the District Traffic Police Office. According to him, action was taken after finding that parts such as silencer, light, number plate, looking glass, shock absorber, and handle were modified indiscriminately.

Senior Sub-Inspector Kunwar stated that the loud noise emitted from modified vehicles directly affects the elderly, children, and sensitive areas, causing noise pollution, and therefore, such vehicles have been penalized. He added that the modified parts on the penalized motorcycles were removed and replaced with standard ones.

Kunwar said, "Motorcycles are ridden at high volume in the bazaar area, causing noise pollution. We have increased our vigilance following public complaints about motorcycles being ridden with loud noises indiscriminately, mostly at night. We had previously impounded seven motorcycles and collected Rs 52,000 in revenue."

According to Kunwar, the law states that a fine of Rs 7,000 to Rs 15,000 can be imposed for riding a modified vehicle under the Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 2049. He informed that more than 2,900 motorcycles have been impounded and their riders penalized since last August.

Krishna Shrestha of Baglung Municipality-2 said that at night, when sleeping, the sound of motorcycles being ridden loudly is like a gunshot, waking him up and causing his heart to race. He believes that the police need to apprehend and take action against such motorcycle riders as they greatly affect the elderly and children.
