KP Sharma Oli Declines to Step Down as CPN-UML Chairman, Yogesh Bhattarai Recalls Story

Kathmandu. After CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli sent a message that he would not give up his leadership, Deputy General Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai recalled the story of an old man. Inaugurating the party's two-day workshop, Oli said on Wednesday that the organization would not be strengthened by cutting off heads and that he would not give up the chairmanship.

Hinting at Oli's statement, Deputy General Secretary Bhattarai quoted the story of an old man told by a leader during the closed session of the Seventh General Convention on social media.

'During the closed session of the Seventh National Convention of CPN-UML (Janakpur), a senior leader of the party narrated such a story during his speech - an old man boarded a bus. There were empty seats but he did not sit down,' Bhattarai wrote, 'After the bus journey, the old man gathered everyone and said - Today, all of you were saved because of me. The passengers were surprised and asked - How? The old man proudly said, 'I saved the bus from overturning by pulling it with a rope, and you all were saved.' Bhattarai said that he was reminded of that story today.
