Nepal Police Report Highway Blockages Due to Landslides and Floods

Kathmandu. Nepal Police has informed that major highways across the country are blocked due to floods, landslides, and road maintenance as of 8 AM on Wednesday.

The disruption of important road sections in Kathmandu Valley, Koshi, and Bagmati provinces has caused problems for passengers and drivers.

Two important alternative roads for entering and exiting Kathmandu Valley have been closed for a long time due to maintenance. The Satungal-Chitlang road section has been completely blocked due to a landslide that occurred at 5 PM on Jestha 16 in Deurali Devsthan, Chandragiri Municipality-9, Kathmandu. Police have stated that this road will be closed for 'one month' as road repair work has begun.

Similarly, the Kulekhani-Phakhel-Humane-Pharping-Kathmandu road section is also completely blocked due to road maintenance in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2 and 4, Mahalakshmi, Bagmati Province. This road, closed since Jestha 15, will also be closed for 'one month' to complete repairs, according to the notice.

Various highways in Koshi Province have also been affected by floods and landslides. The Mid-Hill Highway is completely blocked due to a flood that occurred on Jestha 8 in Dobhan, Yangwarak Rural Municipality-2, Panchthar, cutting off transportation links in that area.

The road damaged by a flood on Baishakh 12 in Bokhim, Bhojpur Municipality-5, along the same highway, has now been opened for one-way traffic, and an alternative route has been arranged for the convenience of vehicles. Similarly, the Koshi Highway in Naya Basti, Makalu Rural Municipality-3, Sankhuwasabha, which was blocked by a landslide on Baishakh 23, has also just been opened for one-way traffic after a long time.

In addition, on the BP Highway in Kavrepalanchok, Bagmati Province, vehicle operation has been restricted due to the potential risk of floods. According to police records, all vehicles plying on the Khurkot-Nepalethok-Katuñjebesi section have been prohibited from operating on this road section since 5 PM on Baishakh 22.
