Nepal Elected Chair of UNGA First Committee

New York. Nepal has been elected as the Chairperson of the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) under the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This is a great diplomatic achievement for the country. It is an international recognition of Nepal's commitment to multilateralism, international peace, security, and global disarmament efforts for over seven decades.

Upon being elected as the Chairperson of the First Committee, Nepal's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, expressed gratitude to the member states for the trust and support placed in Nepal.

He expressed commitment to effectively discharge the responsibility based on impartiality, transparency, and inclusivity, as informed by Nepal's Permanent Mission in New York.

The committee plays an important role in discussions and decision-making processes related to disarmament, international security, and global peace.
