Amend provision curtailing press freedom: NC President Deuba

Kathmandu – Leader of the major opposition Sher Bahadur Deuba has demanded the amendment in the provisions of the Criminal and Civil Codes which curtail press freedom. 


Taking special time in the meeting of the House of Representative today, leader Deuba said process to amend the Codes should be initiated because the democracy can not be strengthened without press freedom. 


"There is mounting worry over the failure to nab the culprit behind the rape and murder of girl. What kind of democracy the Prime Minister was exercising," he wondered, adding the culprits behind such incidents must be brought to book.


Moreover, the NC President and the former Prime Minister Deuba drew the attention of the parliament why the formation of natural resources and financial commission was delayed while it was mentioned in Article 250 of the constitution.

He also expressed worry over farmers not getting due price to the sugarcane neither the fertilizer on time.
