Himāli Youth Club Closes Karnali Corridor Indefinitely Over Looting Incidents

Surkhet. The Himāli Youth Club has closed the Karnali Corridor indefinitely, citing the administration's lack of interest in the looting and assault incidents in Himāli Rural Municipality, Bajura. The club has closed the Karnali Corridor indefinitely since Sunday. 

The club stated that the closure was necessitated because the 24-hour agreement reached on Jestha 8 between the District Administration Office, District Police Office, Armed Police Force, and political parties was not implemented, and instead, incidents of looting and vandalism in locals' homes have increased.

In Lamapata of Himāli Rural Municipality Ward No. 3, local residents' homes were looted and vandalized, and local residents were brutally assaulted. According to the club, some individuals from Humla District's Kharnath Rural Municipality and Sarkegad Rural Municipality are involved in this incident. They are accused of looting personal and public property not only from local residents but also from tourists who came for visits.

The club's demands include conducting an on-site inspection of the incident in Lamapata and preparing an immediate spot report, bringing the perpetrators from Humla District into the legal fold and providing compensation for the looted goods to the victims, the accused party taking responsibility for the treatment of local residents injured in the assault, resettling the displaced families of Lamapata Chyachaur and guaranteeing their security, and collecting compensation for the damage caused to the under-construction police post building and immediately resuming its construction. 

The Himāli Youth Club has warned that the protest will continue until its demands are met.
