Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Forecasts Extreme Heat in Western Terai, Rain in Other Areas

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology on Friday released a city-centric weather forecast, stating that extreme heat will increase in the western Terai.

Releasing the forecast, the department said, 'There is a possibility of temperature increase in the Terai regions of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces today afternoon.' Although a heatwave is expected in the Terai, rain with thunderstorms is forecast in many other places across the country.

During the afternoon, Dipayal, Dhangadhi, and Nepalgunj will experience extreme heat. The maximum temperature in these cities is estimated to reach 39 to 41 degrees Celsius. There is no possibility of rain here, and a heatwave will persist throughout the day. Similarly, Virendranagar's temperature will also reach 37 to 39 degrees Celsius. During the night, the weather in these places will be mainly clear, with minimum temperatures ranging between 21 and 29 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is forecast in the hilly and other regions of the country. Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, and Taplejung have the highest probability of moderate rain in the afternoon, at 60 percent.

Federal capital Kathmandu, along with Dharan, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Jiri, and Jomsom, will experience moderate rain with thunderstorms with a 40 percent probability. Kathmandu's maximum temperature will be between 28 and 30 degrees Celsius. Simara and Janakpur are forecast to have light rain in the afternoon and moderate rain at night.

In terms of temperature, the Himalayan and high hilly regions of the country will remain relatively cold. During the day, Jomsom's maximum temperature will be between 23 and 25 degrees, and Jumla's between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius. During the night, Jumla's minimum temperature will drop to 10 to 12 degrees, and Jomsom's to 11 to 13 degrees Celsius.

Dadeldhura will experience light rain with a 20 percent probability in the afternoon, but the weather will be clear at night.
