Actress Uma Shrestha's Voting Rights Ensured After Dispute

Kathmandu. A dispute over membership has surfaced on the eve of the upcoming election of the Nepal Film Artists Association. Actress Uma Shrestha (Uma Karki) has filed a complaint at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, seeking to ensure her voting rights.

On Thursday, actress Karki approached the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, making serious allegations against the association's secretary, Rameshwar Burlakoti, of taking money but not renewing her membership and trying to deprive her of her voting rights.

According to actress Karki, she wanted to renew her membership for the Artists Association election scheduled for Jestha 3. During this process, secretary Burlakoti asked her to send the money to his personal bank account instead of the organization's account, after which she sent a total of Rs 5,400 via mobile banking.

However, she was shocked to find out that her renewal was not done when she went to collect the card just before the election.

'Initially, they said the card was being printed, but later when I went to inquire, they said it wasn't renewed, I don't know why,' she further stated in her complaint, adding, 'When the chairman and secretary refused to even accept the complaint at the organization, I had to come to the administration for justice.'

The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, immediately hearing Uma's application, has sent a letter to the Artists Association ensuring her voting rights. The letter, signed by Administrative Officer Teertharaj Khatiwada, clarified that there was no valid reason to deprive actress Uma of her voting rights.

The administration's letter to the association states, 'As it is not appropriate to deprive her of her voting rights, you are requested to be informed of the detailed situation through the application itself and ensure the applicant's voting rights.'

Uma has acted in many teleserials including Thori Bhaye Pugchha Sari, Jeevan Chakra, Bharosa, and many films including Cabin Girl, Teacher, Pirim Paryo Chhan, Aparanh, Yo Sano Maya Ko.
