Aamir Khan Denies 'Love Jihad' Allegations Amidst Third Marriage Controversy

Mumbai. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who has been facing criticism on social media as a brand ambassador of 'love jihad' after his third marriage, has clarified and denied those allegations.

In a conversation with the website Rediff, Aamir clarified that all his three marriages were legal marriages and none of his wives converted their religion. He also revealed that his third wife, Gauri, is Christian, not Hindu. Citing an example of family secularism, Aamir said, 'My daughter Ira is married to a Hindu. My two sisters, Nikhat Khan and Farhat Khan, also have husbands who are Hindu, and my cousin Mansoor has also married a Christian woman.'

Actor Aamir Khan and his partner Gauri Spry got married on July 5. They signed the marriage documents at Aamir's house in Bandra, Mumbai. The private wedding ceremony, attended only by family members and a few very close friends, was registered as a court marriage under the 'Special Marriage Act'.

Aamir's third marriage has sparked a major controversy in political and religious circles. Maharashtra government minister Nitesh Rane had questioned whether Aamir Khan was trying to become a brand ambassador of 'love jihad'. Similarly, another Maharashtra minister, Sanjay Shirsat, commented that although this is Aamir's personal life, such things can have a negative impact on society.

In protest against the marriage, some organizations including Bajrang Dal have demonstrated against Aamir Khan and even burned his effigy. They allege that Aamir deliberately marries non-Muslim women.

Meanwhile, a fatwa has also been issued in Uttar Pradesh regarding Aamir's marriage. In Aligarh, UP's Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ifraheem Hussain stated that marrying a non-Muslim woman who has not accepted Islam and remains in her old religion according to Sharia is completely wrong and illegitimate. According to Muslim law, such a marriage is invalid, and Muslim men who do so are also religiously guilty, he said.

Aamir had made his relationship with Gauri public on his 60th birthday in 2025. Like Aamir, Gauri was also previously married and has a 7-year-old child. Aamir and Gauri knew each other for the past 25 years. Initially good friends, they later entered into a romantic relationship.
