Andy Flower Fined 15% of Match Fee for Abusive Language

Bengaluru. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Royal Challengers Bengaluru Head Coach Andy Flower has been penalized by the Indian Cricket Control Board (BCCI).

He has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for aggressive behavior and using abusive language with the umpire during the match between Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians in Raipur on Sunday.

In the 18th over of the match, Flower got into a heated argument with the fourth umpire near the dugout over a decision. The abusive words he used during that time were clearly heard on the broadcasting mic, following which the IPL Governing Body declared it a Level-1 offense for indiscipline. According to Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, using abusive language audibly during the game is prohibited.

Flower has accepted the punishment imposed by Match Referee Amit Sharma, admitting his mistake. The BCCI stated that since he has accepted his mistake, there was no need for a formal hearing in this matter. Although fines on coaches or support staff in the IPL are considered rare, the board appears to be very serious this time regarding the respect for umpires.

Before Andy Flower, many captains and players have lost a large portion of their match fee as a fine due to disciplinary violations.
