Punjab Kings Secure Historic Run Chase Against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026

New Delhi. Punjab Kings have registered their sixth consecutive victory in IPL 2026 (the match against Kolkata Knight Riders was postponed due to rain). The team defeated Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets in the match held on Sunday. 

Delhi won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a massive target of 264 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. In response, Punjab successfully chased down the target of 265 runs in 18.5 overs, losing only 4 wickets. This is the highest successful run chase in IPL history. 

KL Rahul becomes the first Indian to score over 150 runs in an IPL match

Delhi captain KL Rahul scored an unbeaten century, amassing 152 runs. This is the highest individual score by any Indian batsman in the IPL. Previously, the record was held by Abhishek Sharma, who scored 141 runs against Punjab last season. 

Nitish Rana also batted brilliantly for Delhi, contributing 91 runs. Rahul and Rana shared a massive 220-run partnership for the second wicket. 

Meanwhile, Delhi's fast bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious injury in the third over of the match. Priyansh Arya played a shot off an Axar Patel full toss; the ball went into the air, and Ngidi, who was running from mid-off to take the catch, failed to judge it and fell backward. 

The medical team reached the spot immediately and began treatment. Due to the serious nature of the injury, Ngidi was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The match was halted for approximately 15 minutes due to the injury.
