Another French UN Peacekeeper Dies Following Attack in Lebanon

Kathmandu. Another French peacekeeper serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has died. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the death of Corporal Anicet Girardin via the social media platform X.

Girardin, who was critically wounded in an attack by Hezbollah militants, had been evacuated to France yesterday but succumbed to his injuries this morning during treatment. Previously, another French peacekeeper was killed instantly last Saturday when their patrol team was fired upon in southern Lebanon.

President Macron has directly blamed the Iranian-backed armed group Hezbollah for the deadly attack. However, Hezbollah has consistently denied any involvement in the incident. Two other peacekeepers remain injured from the same attack.

Expressing his full support for the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, Macron voiced concerns that recent military activities could jeopardize the agreement. He has urged Hezbollah to immediately lay down its arms and called on Israel to respect Lebanon's sovereignty.
