US Launches New Airstrikes on Iran, Trump Warns of 'Good Behavior'

Washington DC. The United States launched a new round of airstrikes on Iran on Wednesday. US President Donald Trump warned Tehran, saying it must 'show good behavior'.

According to the US military, this attack was targeted at Iranian military capabilities that could threaten ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, the US fired on a ship that attempted to violate the new blockade imposed on Iranian ports.

Iran claimed to have attacked US military bases in areas including Bahrain and Kuwait on the fifth day of clashes, contrary to the preliminary agreement to end the war between the two countries. Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told state media that Tehran has 'no reason' to continue adhering to the agreement if it is not beneficial.

Earlier, Trump had threatened to attack bridges and power plants in Iran if Iran did not come to negotiations next week. Responding to reporters' questions on Wednesday, he said, 'I don't like to set deadlines.'

He added, 'But they know the story well, they have to show good behavior.' Trump later claimed at a defense conference that Iran is not happy now and is very eager to reach an agreement. He said, 'We will decide whether to make a deal with them or finish it.'

On the other hand, Iranian negotiator Ghalibaf said that Iran's national security depends on maintaining the 'Iranian order' in the Strait of Hormuz. He said that this fight with America is a fight for existence, and war as well as negotiation is part of Iran's resistance strategy.

Earlier in April, when Trump threatened to bomb Iran's civilian infrastructure, UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk condemned it, calling it a war crime. Amidst the ongoing conflict, Trump expressed satisfaction that Iran released an American woman who was wrongly detained in Iran in December 2024.

Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, 'She is now safe and in good condition outside Iran. The United States appreciates this goodwill gesture from Iran.' Her lawyer Jared Genser mentioned on social media X that the woman is Dana Carari and she is on her way back to the US.

According to the US military's Centcom, airstrikes were carried out in two phases on Wednesday afternoon, which have weakened Iran's ability to attack commercial ships. The first 90-minute attack targeted Iran's coastal defense systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Greater Tunb Island.

On Wednesday night, the US military command Centcom announced that the second phase of the attack was also completed. This attack damaged Iran's command centers, air defense systems, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance centers in the city of Bandar Abbas.

Since the blockade was imposed on the port on Tuesday evening, the US has rerouted two commercial ships. This blockade was lifted last month after an agreement was reached between the two countries to end months of conflict.

However, the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz has now become the main issue. In response to the US blockade, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that other oil and gas export routes beneficial to the US and its allies could be closed.
