Iran Claims Ownership of Strait of Hormuz, Cites Historical Control

Tehran. Iran's former Foreign Minister and senior advisor to the Supreme Leader, Ali Akbar Velayati, has claimed that the Strait of Hormuz is owned by Iran and that no power in the world can snatch it from Iran. 'No power in the world can snatch the Strait of Hormuz from Iran's ownership,' he said while talking to Iran's state television.

'The Strait of Hormuz coming under Iran's sovereign control after a 40-day war under the courageous and visionary leadership of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei is a significant achievement,' Velayati further claimed. Meanwhile, the United States has stated that it has launched a new phase of airstrikes on Iran with the aim of weakening Iran's ability to threaten ships in the Strait.

The US has intensified its attacks in recent days after Iran targeted oil tankers using alternative sea routes in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, Iran has been attacking US military targets in the Gulf region, including Bahrain and Kuwait.
