Minister Birajbhakta Shrestha Establishes 'Governance Unit' to Enhance Ministry Performance

Kathmandu. Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Birajbhakta Shrestha, has established a 'Governance Unit' with the objective of making the ministry's performance more efficient, transparent, and result-oriented.

The unit was established in accordance with the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act, 2064, relevant regulations, and the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal.

The unit will conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of the performance of employees working in the ministry and its subordinate bodies.

The newly formed unit will be coordinated by the Joint Secretary of the Administration Division. Additionally, Joint Secretaries from the Program, Budget and Monitoring, Water Resources, Energy, Development Assistance and Provincial Coordination, Water and Meteorology, and Law and Judgment Implementation divisions will serve as members. The Deputy Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Branch will hold the responsibility of Member Secretary of the unit.

The unit will specifically monitor whether tasks determined by the ministry under the 'delivery-based governance system' are completed within the stipulated timeframe, whether responsible officials are effectively fulfilling their duties, and the implementation status of performance indicators.

In addition, it will evaluate progress according to employees' job descriptions, compliance with legal deadlines, and the utilization of government resources.

The ministry has expressed confidence that this unit will help improve work culture, increase accountability, and promote good governance.
