Ride-Sharing Drivers Protest Unfair Fares and Labor Exploitation in Kathmandu

Kathmandu. The Independent Drivers Foundation staged a demonstration in Maitidevi on Monday, alleging that ride-sharing companies operating in Nepal are arbitrarily setting fares and exploiting the labor of riders. They complained that they were forced to take to the streets after their concerns were ignored despite prolonged attempts at dialogue with relevant bodies and companies.

Gathered in Maitidevi with their motorcycles, they demanded fare adjustments following the rise in petrol prices, parading through various parts of the city. They also put forward demands such as proper implementation of insurance and a reduction in company commissions.

The group warned that they would completely halt ride-sharing services if their demands are not met. Warning against underestimating the patience of the riders, they announced that this protest would be expanded nationwide.
