Bollywood Actress Dia Mirza Reveals Being Labeled 'Jinx' and 'Unlucky' After Debut Film's Initial Flop

Mumbai. Bollywood actress Dia Mirza's debut film, 'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein,' is considered a cult classic today. However, Dia had to pay a heavy price when this film flopped upon release.

In a recent interview, Dia disclosed a difficult phase in her career where the industry tagged her as a 'jinx' and 'unlucky.' The humiliation and struggles she faced in her career have now become a topic of discussion on social media.

At the beginning of her career, Dia's beauty often led to comparisons with Aishwarya Rai, a former Miss World. Speaking to The Indian Express, Dia said, 'I remember when one of my big films flopped, everything suddenly changed. The same people who used to line up to cast me in films started considering me unlucky.'

When people started considering her unlucky, she stopped getting work. Due to this cruel behavior from the film industry, she had to remain out of the limelight for a long time.

After not getting work for a long time, Dia decided to take the initiative herself. When director Rajkumar Hirani was casting for the film 'Sanju,' Dia personally called him to ask for work.

She told Hirani, 'Please give me work, I don't have any projects. I am ready to do a screen test, just give me one chance.' Hirani accepted her proposal and cast her in the role of Maanayata Dutt opposite Ranbir Kapoor. This film proved to be a turning point in Dia's career and re-established her in the industry.

'Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein,' released in 2001, had a budget of about 5-6 crore rupees. The film collected only 5.36 crore net in India, landing it on the list of box office flops. However, the film later became so popular through television and DVD that it is now considered one of the best films in the romantic genre. Audiences still highly appreciate the film's songs and the actors' performances.

Currently, Dia has several big projects in hand. In 2026, she will be busy with four major works. She will be seen alongside Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna in the film 'Ikkka.'

Furthermore, she has two web series lined up with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Jimmy Shergill. Besides films, Dia is now debuting in a new avatar as a writer. She will soon debut as an author by writing a book for children.
