Pre-Monsoon Weather Pattern Continues: Clear Skies Wednesday, Increased Cloudiness Expected from Thursday

Kathmandu. Due to the pre-monsoon system, there has been cloud cover and rainfall for the past week. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology stated that while the weather in Nepal will see some improvement and remain generally clear on Wednesday, cloud cover is expected to increase again starting Thursday.

According to the department, although most places will have clear weather similar to today, with only scattered clouds, the situation is expected to gradually worsen from Thursday. Senior Meteorologist Varun Paudel stated that during the pre-monsoon period, the cycle of clearing up and then developing systems leading to cloud cover continues, with increased cloudiness starting Thursday. He added that cloud cover will be more significant on Friday and Saturday, with light rain in some places, but the pattern will be intermittent rain in some areas rather than widespread downpours across the entire country.

Senior Meteorologist Varun Paudel also warned that the pre-monsoon season carries a higher risk of thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms. He urged caution as strong winds and hailstorms can cause significant impact in one area while another is experiencing sunshine.

Currently, Nepal is under the partial influence of a Western Low-Pressure System and local winds.

In a bulletin issued this evening, the department indicated that the hilly regions of the country will generally experience cloud cover on Wednesday, while the remaining hilly and Terai regions will have partial cloud cover. There is a possibility of light rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and snowfall in one or two places in the high-altitude areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali Provinces.

On Thursday, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy in the hilly and high-altitude areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as the hilly regions of Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi Provinces, with partial cloud cover in the remaining areas.

There is a possibility of moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, hailstorms, and snowfall in some places in the hilly and high-altitude regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces, a few places in the hilly and high-altitude regions of Lumbini and Gandaki Provinces, and one or two places in the hilly and high-altitude regions of Bagmati and Koshi Provinces.
