Election Commission Suggests Constitutional Amendment for National Assembly Chairman to Perform Vice Presidential Duties

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has suggested amending the constitution to assign the responsibility of performing the duties of the Vice President to the Chairman of the National Assembly.< /p>

The Election Commission has given this suggestion to the constitutional amendment task force led by Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah's political advisor Ashim Shah.< /p>

Article 67 of the Constitution of Nepal has provisions related to the Vice President. The Commission has asked to amend this to make a provision that 'the Chairman of the National Assembly shall also perform the duties of the Vice President.' The Election Commission opines that if the constitution is amended in this way, the dignity and impartiality of the National Assembly can be maintained, and coordination between the executive and the parliament can be made effective.< /p>
