Viratanagar Metropolitan City Honors Environmental Organizations on World Environment Day

Viratanagar. On the occasion of World Environment Day, Viratanagar Metropolitan City has expressed its commitment to further strengthen the Green Viratanagar campaign by honoring two organizations that have made significant contributions to environmental protection, green expansion, and climate change mitigation.

In a special program organized on the metropolitan premises on Friday, Go Green Viratanagar and SunauLo Awashar Yuwa Club, which have been promoting environmental awareness, tree plantation, and environmental protection activities at the community level, were honored.

Chief Guest and Mayor of Viratanagar Metropolitan City, Nagesh Koirala, honored Navinchandra Adhikari of Go Green Viratanagar and Pushparaj Giri of SunauLo Awashar Yuwa Club with garlands and certificates, highly appreciating their contributions.

Speaking at the honoring ceremony, Mayor Koirala mentioned that environmental crisis has become a common global challenge and stressed that the active participation of the government, private sector, social organizations, and citizens is essential for its solution. Highlighting that environmental risks are intensifying due to increasing temperatures, irregular rainfall, and pollution in recent years, he emphasized that every house, school, industry, and organization should take up tree plantation as a campaign.

“Sustainable development is not possible without a green environment,” he said, “A single sapling planted today can provide clean air, a cool environment, and a secure future for the next generation.”

Speaking at the program, Acting Chief Administrative Officer Ramprasad Dhungel stated that the cooperation of all parties is indispensable in developing Viratanagar as an organized, clean, and green city. He mentioned that environmental improvement will be integrated with the long-term development strategy of the metropolis.

Environment Branch Chief Engineer Rakesh Thakur informed that the metropolis has been conducting various awareness and green promotion programs to increase public participation in environmental protection. He noted that the role of local levels is becoming even more important in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Earlier, a rally was organized from Mahendra Chowk with the participation of various environmental protection organizations, youth groups, and school students. The rally, carrying messages related to eco-friendly lifestyle, waste management, tree plantation, and climate awareness, drew the attention of city dwellers towards environmental issues.

Students from St. Mary's School in Viratanagar presented awareness-raising dramas and songs related to environmental protection at the program. Puja Biswas, active in environmental protection, facilitated both programs.

Viratanagar Metropolitan City has announced that it will further prioritize green area expansion, pollution control, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable urban development in the coming days by encouraging individuals and organizations contributing to environmental protection. This initiative by the metropolis is expected to increase public participation in environmental responsibility and provide further impetus to the campaign for building a green and clean Viratanagar.
