Foreign Direct Investment Commitments Drop Significantly in Nepali Month of Falgun

Kathmandu. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments totaling NPR 386 million were received in the current fiscal year's month of Falgun. According to the monthly data released by the Department of Industry, this investment commitment was secured across a total of 30 industries in Falgun.

According to the Department, NPR 187 million in investment commitment came through the automatic route for 26 industries, and NPR 199 million came through the approval route for 4 industries. The Department stated that over the eight-month period from Shrawan to Falgun of the current fiscal year, a total commitment of NPR 40.6693 billion was received across 554 industries.

During the first 8 months of the current fiscal year, investment commitments were secured for 8 large industries, 8 medium industries, and 538 small industries. All 30 industries that received commitments in Falgun alone were small in nature.

Compared to the previous month of Magh, foreign investment commitments saw a sharp decline in Falgun. While investment commitments worth NPR 1.04 billion were received in Magh, this figure decreased to NPR 386 million in Falgun.

According to the Department's statistics, over the first 8 months of the current fiscal year, the highest investment commitment, 54% or NPR 21.90 billion, was received in industries based on agriculture and forest products, followed by the tourism sector with 27% or NPR 11 billion.
