Madesh Province Sees 58% Paddy Plantation Amidst Delayed Monsoon

Janakpurdham. Due to the delayed monsoon this year, paddy plantation has occurred in about 58 percent of the arable land in Madesh Province by the end of Asar.

According to the Directorate of Agricultural Development, Naktajhiz, Dhanusha, paddy plantation has been completed in 57.93 percent of the total area in Madesh Province by Asar. Among these, Siraha has the highest at 80 percent and Mahottari has the lowest at 39.59 percent, informed Horticulture Development Officer Kiran Bishwakarma of the Directorate of Agricultural Development, Madesh Province.

District-wise, out of 68 thousand hectares of land in Saptari, paddy has been planted in 34 thousand hectares, and out of 54 thousand hectares in Siraha, 43 thousand 200 hectares have been planted, informed Officer Bishwakarma.

Similarly, out of 43 thousand 700 hectares of land in Dhanusha, 21 thousand 850 hectares have been planted; out of 40 thousand hectares in Mahottari, 15 thousand 838 hectares; out of 42 thousand 695 hectares in Sarlahi, 25 thousand 619 hectares; out of 38 thousand 500 hectares in Rautahat, 21 thousand 175 hectares; out of 45 thousand 100 hectares in Bara, 24 thousand 805 hectares; and out of 53 thousand 938 hectares in Parsa, 35 thousand 59.7 hectares have been planted, stated Bishwakarma.

According to agricultural technicians, if paddy plantation is completed within Asar, it is expected to have a positive impact on production. With sufficient moisture, field preparation, seedling uprooting, and plantation work are currently underway simultaneously across the province.

This year, farmers have paid attention to using improved paddy seeds and proper management of chemical and organic fertilizers. However, in some places, the availability of fertilizer and irrigation infrastructure still remains a challenge, said farmer Ajaykumar Yadav of Bodebarsain, Saptari.
