Nepal to Officially Participate in 79th Cannes Film Festival

Kathmandu. Nepal is set to formally participate in the 79th Cannes Film Festival, one of the world's most prestigious film festivals. The Film Development Board announced that it will officially participate in the festival with the objective of promoting Nepali cinema internationally, expanding collaborations, and increasing access to the global market.

The Film Development Board is participating in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board in the festival, which will be held in Cannes, France, from May 12 to 23 (2026). At the festival, Nepali films, film projects, posters, trailers, and other promotional materials will be presented to international film market distributors, producers, film funds, festival representatives, and audiences through a dedicated stall.

According to the Board, Nepali filmmakers participating individually at the Cannes Film Festival will also be able to share the Board's stall to present their films and projects internationally, which is expected to create a significant opportunity to connect Nepali cinema with the global film market. The Film Development Board stated that it views this initiative as a historic opportunity to establish the Nepali film industry on the world film stage.
