Preparations Begin for New Parliament Session Amid Incomplete Venue

Kathmandu. As the vote counting for the House of Representatives election nears its final stage, preparations have begun for the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected members and the convening of the parliamentary session. According to constitutional provisions, the parliamentary session must be summoned within 30 days of the final election results being published. However, the permanent hall for conducting the meetings and oath-taking ceremony for the upcoming parliament is not yet fully ready.

The oath-taking ceremony for the members will be held before the session convenes. During this ceremony, the eldest member will first take the oath from the Honorable President, and then the President will administer the oath to the other members.

Currently, the permanent building where parliamentary sessions are held is unavailable. Following the fire incident in the parliament building during the Janajyoti movement, an alternative venue had to be arranged for conducting regular meetings. As an alternative, preparations are underway to temporarily utilize the multi-purpose hall inside the new parliament building currently under construction within the Singha Durbar complex.

Ekram Giri, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson for the Federal Parliament Secretariat, informed that the construction of the hall has reached its final stage and is expected to be completed within a few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Federal Parliament Secretariat plans to organize a two-day orientation program to enhance the capacity of the newly elected members.
