Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa to Finalize Central Working Committee After General Election

Gagan Thapa, who was unanimously elected as the President during the special general convention held from Poush 27 to 30, has decided to fully constitute the party's Central Working Committee and Working Executive Committee only after the House of Representatives election.

A 134-member Central Working Committee under Thapa's leadership was unanimously selected at the special general convention led by Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma, amidst disagreements from Sher Bahadur Deuba and Dr. Shekhar Koirala, who were elected President in the 14th General Convention.

The Congress statute allows the President to nominate 33 members to the Central Working Committee. Vice President Pushpa Bhusal informed that President Thapa will complete the Central Working Committee by nominating members only after the election, as per this provision.

'The Central Committee is not complete. Even after the election, the Nepali Congress has a huge responsibility on its shoulders. We have stated that we will form a majority government. The party's role does not end when the government is formed. The responsibility of running the government well and strengthening the organization remains with the party,' Vice President Bhusal told Ratopati. 'The work of preparing for the 15th General Convention will commence. On one hand, we have the task of overseeing the government, and on the other, we have to prepare for the 15th General Convention. After the House of Representatives election on Falgun 21, we will complete the committee and give opportunities to experienced leaders who have contributed to the party in the working executive body,' she added.

Vice President Bhusal also informed that only ex-officio members will be in the Working Executive Committee before the election. 'Before the election, we will work with the current office bearers in the Working Executive Committee. Other members will be nominated only after mutual consultation following the election,' she said.

The House of Representatives election is scheduled for the upcoming Falgun 21.
