Israeli Documentary Wins Top Prize at Nepal Cultural International Film Festival

Kathmandu. The Israeli documentary 'Gimpel the Fool Returns to Poland' won the first prize at the Seventh Nepal Cultural International Film Festival 2026 held in Kathmandu. Based on a story by Nobel laureate writer Isaac Bashevis Singer, this documentary secured the top spot in the international category for its excellent cinematography, powerful narration, and artistic aspects.

Howard Reip, founder of Israel's 'Nefesh' Theater and a renowned actor and director, had come to Nepal for the screening of this documentary. The documentary interestingly presented the life and literary legacy of Nobel laureate Singer, along with historical contexts. During the festival, this film generated deep interest and discussion among the audience and filmmakers.

A special screening of this documentary was also held yesterday at Divyabhumi Multiple College and Imperial World School in Kathmandu, coordinated by the Israeli Embassy. On that occasion, Director Reip interacted with students and professors, sharing his experiences regarding the film's production process, its underlying themes, and the background of the 'Holocaust' (Jewish genocide).

The embassy believes that such cultural programs will further strengthen people-to-people relations between Nepal and Israel.
