Election Commission's Decision on Voter List Update
The Election Commission of Nepal has decided to collect and update the voter list by the end of the month of Kartik (around mid-November). This decision was made during a meeting of the Commission held on Thursday. The Acting Chief Election Commissioner, Ram Prasad Bhandari, provided this information.
Deadline for Voter Registration
Commissioner Bhandari stated that the voter list compilation will continue until the end of Kartik. Furthermore, any citizen who will be 18 years old by the date of Falgun 20 (approximately early March) will be eligible to vote. The process of collecting voter names has already started from today.
Preparation for Upcoming Elections
This action is in preparation for the House of Representatives member election scheduled for Falgun 21. The Commission had previously requested the government to create a legal pathway, through an ordinance, to allow for the voter list compilation. The government has since opened this pathway as requested.
