Former IGP Sarbendra Khanal quits UML
Kathmandu, January 5 — Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nepal Police Sarbendra Khanal has announced his departure from the CPN (UML).
Through a post on social media platform Facebook, he stated that he is no longer affiliated with any political party.
He wrote, "I want to clarify my political position as I sense that there is confusion among you. I am currently not associated with any political party. I am working independently to address local and national issues."
He further mentioned that he intends to spend his time working for the welfare of the country and society.
Khanal had formally joined CPN (UML) on September 22, 2022.
In the 2022 general elections, Khanal was defeated as a candidate for the House of Representatives from Kathmandu Constituency No. 6, and he also faced a loss in the by-election from Tanahun.
