Jhapa District Court Achieves 60.02% Case Resolution in FY 2082/83

Jhapa. The District Court of Jhapa has achieved a progress of 60.02% by resolving 4,535 out of a total of 7,549 cases in the fiscal year 2082/83.

Although the court had set a target of resolving 65% of cases in the said fiscal year, it had to be limited to 60.02% due to various reasons, informed Umesh Prasad Luintel, Chief Judge of the District Court Jhapa. According to him, it was difficult to resolve cases as per the target due to the Janji movement of last year, the obstruction it caused to the court's case management system, and the federal parliamentary elections.

According to the court, out of a total of 7,549 cases, including 3,232 cases carried over from the previous fiscal year and 4,317 cases registered in the fiscal year 2082/83, 3,014 cases are yet to be decided.

Judge Parasmani Pokharel, who performed excellently in the fiscal year 2082/83, has been honored. 627 cases were decided from his bench during that period. The court's registrar, undersecretary Dilliram Prasai, stated that despite the increasing caseload, justice has been dispensed quickly, impartially, transparently, and accountably by maximizing the use of available resources.

According to him, to make the service delivery faster, simpler, and more transparent, the court has implemented systems such as classification of cases into simple, general, and special tracks according to their nature, automated hearing system, lottery system for bench selection, online hearings, and online adjournments.

Furthermore, he informed that the progress and decisions of cases can also be viewed through the court's website. The District Court Jhapa currently has a sanctioned strength of nine judges.
