Government to file review petition against Supreme Court's order to release Durga Prasai

Kathmandu, December 27 — The government has decided to file a review petition against the Supreme Court's order to release Durga Prasain, who is under investigation in a benefit from criminal conduct case.

On December 20, a bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Sharanga Subedi of the Supreme Court had ordered that Prasai be released on bail and allowed to remain outside detention during the investigation.

Spokesperson of the Office of the Attorney General, Surya Raj Dahal, told Ratopati that a review petition would be filed once the official order is received from the Supreme Court. He said, "We have not received the letter from the Supreme Court yet, but once we do, we will proceed with the review petition."

After being granted bail in a cybercrime case with a 40,000 rupee bond, the police had brought Prasai back to court to extend his remand.

According to SP Hobindra Bogti of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), an investigation is also ongoing against Prasai in relation to a criminal benefit case.

There are allegations linking Prasai to Harishchandra Phuyal, who was arrested for allegedly threatening Nepali businessmen in the name of Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Phuyal had reportedly threatened businessmen, saying he would "finish them off" if they did not support Prasai's campaign for the "Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizen Protection Movement."
