5 kilograms of gold seized at TIA
Kathmandu, November 6 — Over 5 kilograms of gold have been seized at Tribhuvan International Airport.
On Tuesday evening, three individuals were arrested with a total of 5 kilograms and 700 grams of gold, according to Assistant Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force, DSP Shailendra Thapa, who provided the information on Wednesday morning.
The three individuals – Jian Zhong, a Chinese national from Sharjah, UAE, and San Daing Tung and Ri Nong, both from Myanmar – were traveling on an Air Arabia flight to Kathmandu. They were arrested with the gold in their possession, Thapa confirmed.
The gold was discovered during an inspection in the customs baggage area. The gold was hidden inside 12 speakers in the luggage.
A joint team of Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office and the Armed Police Force Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Security Base seized the gold.
All three individuals have been held at the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office for further investigation.
