NC vows action against VP Dhanraj Gurung 'if found guilty'
Kathmandu, September 21 — Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma said that action will be taken against the party's Vice President Dhanraj Gurung if found guilty in the cooperative fraud case. Speaking at an event organized by the Congress's Jhapa-Kathmandu Samparka Samiti, Sharma claimed that an investigation into Gurung had already begun.
He said, "Our Vice President must be investigated; the investigation process is underway. The Congress has not obstructed this process anywhere, nor has it applied any pressure. Today, the CIB has initiated the investigation. Dhanraj Gurung may appear innocent while being investigated, may receive garlands, may lead the Congress and move forward, but if found guilty, he will go to jail." He noted that older parties can make such statements, but newer parties cannot.
He mentioned that due to the stance taken by the Congress, evidence of misappropriation amounting to 87 billion rupees has come to light. Stating that 2 million people were saved from being defrauded, he claimed that after 17,000 people died, another 17,000 were saved thanks to the Congress's efforts, asserting that the party played a role in preventing the deaths of 2 million people.
