18 security personnel and 12 juvenile detainees injured in clash
KATHMANDU, Aug 21: 18 security personnel including an inspector and a juvenile detainee were injured in a clash. Turmoil arose in the Juvenile Reform Centre in Sano Thimi when a minor detainee died in the reform centre.
Ten policemen including Inspector Sanjeev Oli, stationed at Thimi Police Circe, were injured in the clash. 8 police personnel of the Armed Police were also injured.
Valley Police Office DIG, Lalmani Acharya, told Ratopati that 12 juvenile detainees were injured in the clash. "11 juvenile detainees are being treated at the Nagarik Communical Hospital in Bhaktapur and one is being treated at the Trauma Centre", said Acharya.
Shankar Gharti, who is undergoing treatment at the Trauma Centre, is in critical condition. 221 juvenile detainees had escaped the reform centre amidst the turmoil. 86 of the escapees have been arrested by the police from the Baneshwor area.
The clash occurred after a juvenile detainee named Kamal Basnet, 18, died on Sunday morning. Staff members of the reform centre took him to Nagarik Community Hospital for alleged health problems but his family members claimed that he died before reaching the hospital.
Kamal Basnet was in the Juvenile Reform Centre since 2077 BS per the order of the court.
