RSP struggles to decide whom to support for Kirtipur Mayor
Kathmandu, November 26 — The Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has informed that, although the Kirtipur Municipality Committee has been given the authority to decide on whom to support for the mayoral position, a final decision has not yet been made.
According to the party's district coordinator, Pradeep Bista, the party has not yet reached a conclusion on whom to support among the 11 candidates.
"If it were just one or two candidates, we could have decided. But there are 11 candidates, all of whom, due to their discontent with political parties, are contesting as independents. RSP is looking for a good candidate," he said. "We have told the Kirtipur Municipality Committee to choose one of the independent candidates to support."
A by-election for local government will be held on December 1. For this purpose, during the candidate registration on November 17, RSP was unable to field any candidate for the election. Citing internal reasons, the party has decided not to field its own candidate and instead support an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, focusing on the local by-election and current political developments, RSP has announced a press conference at 3 PM today, according to the party's acting spokesperson, Manish Jha.
It is understood that RSP is preparing to support one of the following independent candidates: Dr. Nabarath Kumar Baniya, Kabi Kumar Maharjan, or sanitation activist Rajman Maharjan.
