Sinamangal couple's suicide case: Family unaware of their arrival in Nepal
Kathmandu, November 26 — The bodies of Ramesh Majhi and Sharmila Majhi, who were found dead on the fourth floor of Hotel Janmabhoomi in Sinamangal on November 23, have been handed over to their family.
After postmortem at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, the bodies were received by their relatives, as confirmed by SP Nabaraj Adhikari of the Kathmandu District Police Range to Ratopati.
Ramesh and Sharmila were a couple from Duhabi, Sunsari. They had arrived in Kathmandu from Canada on a Qatar Airways flight on the morning of November 23. However, their family members were unaware that they had arrived in Kathmandu.
When the police informed that their bodies were found hanging in the hotel, Ramesh's parents did not initially believe it, according to a police officer involved in the investigation. The officer said, "They didn’t believe it, saying 'Our son and daughter-in-law are in Canada.'"
The family members, after coming to Kathmandu from Sunsari, filed a report with the police at the Gaushala Police Circle to investigate the incident.
The couple, who had lived in Canada for two years, have a 4-year-old son. They had left their 2-year-old son in Nepal and went to Canada. SP Adhikari stated, "It seems they went directly from the airport to the hotel."
The couple, who did not inform their family before returning from Canada, reportedly committed suicide, but the reason for their death remains unclear. Officials involved in the investigation stated, "The family members were unaware, and we are trying to determine the cause of death from a technical perspective."
The autopsy report of the couple has not yet been received.
