Ilam, India has removed the month-long ban that it had been imposing on the export of ginger from Nepal. The ban has been removed with the arrival of Minister of External Affairs of India, Sushma Swaraj, on an official visit to Nepal.
The sides concerned from Nepal and India had held discussions on Wednesday regarding lifting the ban. Export of ginger from Nepal to India was opened immediately after the meeting, said Krishna Poudel, a ginger trader of Ilam Municipality.
Ginger farmers and traders here had been calling on the governments of both Nepal and India to remove the ban. Scores of trucks loaded with ginger have left here for Kakadvitta, the border transit point, with the removal of the ban.
