Police fire rubber bullets as protesters rally against MCC at New Baneshwar
KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Police on Sunday afternoon fired several rounds of rubber bullets in a clash with protesters at New Baneshwar in Kathmandu.
Various political parties, including CPN (Maoist Center), and their sister organizations have been staging protests in the capital as the government prepares to ratify the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC), a $500 million American grant assistance.
Police also fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse the crowd as the protest intensified.
As protests erupted in the streets of Kathmandu, the government on Sunday tabled the MCC agreement in parliament.
