Six-point agreement reached in connection with pregnant woman’s death in Kalikot

Kalikot,  A six-point agreement has been forged between the hospital management and the family of a pregnant woman who died during treatment at the District Hospital, to provide compensation to the victim’s family, and launch an investigation into the incident.
The victim’s family blamed the woman’s death on negligence of doctors involved in her surgery. The woman had to undergo a caesarean section when she failed to give birth through a normal procedure.
Following pressure from the victim’s family, a meeting was called and the agreement was forged between the accused and the victim’s family.
The meeting also involved the Chief District Officer Badri Nath Gaire, Chief of the District Coordination Committee Anipal Shahi, Chief of the hospital Kaushal Ali, mayor of Khandachakra Municipality, Jasi Prasad Pandey, and local political party leaders.
It has also formed a five-member probe committee led by the coordination committee chief Shahi, and asked concerned authorities to take initiations to manage required manpower and medical equipments in the hospital, said CDO Gaire.
Chandra Shah of Khadachakra in the district was recently admitted to the hospital for delivery before being referred to Kathmandu-based Maharajgunj Hospital. She was taken to Kathmandu by helicopter. Shah died during treatment at the hospital. The victim’s family however claimed that Shah died while undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, but the bad news was kept hidden in an attempt to come clean of the incident.
