Minimum annual income of Rs 1 mln mandatory to travel abroad with visit visa

KATHMANDU, March 3: The government has begun preparations to make it mandatory to have an annual income of Rs one million in order to receive a visit visa to travel to any foreign countries.

The government has begun the preparations to bring the new rules in effect after getting reports that those traveling abroad with visit visas are staying in foreign countries illegally.

Earlier the government had formed a committee to study the issues of visit visas under the leadership of Phanindra Mani Pokhrel, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs. The committee has submitted a report and suggested the government not to allow those willing to travel abroad with visit visas without a minimum annual income of Rs 1,000,000.

Besides, with this regulation in effect, it will be necessary for the traveler to have his/her taxes cleared and Rs 500,000 deposited in the bank.

Similarly, the report has also suggested the government to make the permission of the Department of Immigration compulsory for the same.
