National Human Rights Commission Recommends Compensation for 'Gen Z' Protest Damages

Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission has recommended that the government collect factual details of the physical damage to public and private sectors during the 'Gen Z' movement and provide appropriate compensation. 

In the investigation report released by the commission on Wednesday, it was mentioned that the state failed to protect the lives and property of citizens and urged for justice and relief for the victims. 

Point 8 of the recommendation section of the report states, 'Regarding the damages to public and private sectors during the movement on Bhadra 24, it is recommended to assess the actual value by taking a list of damages to such private sector business establishments and private property and provide appropriate and reasonable compensation as much as possible.' 

During the movement, protestors engaged in widespread vandalism and arson not only on government buildings but also on private business establishments, media houses, and the private residences of leaders and cadres of political parties. 

The commission has directed the concerned bodies to immediately collect the cost of damage and, through an expert team, assess its economic value and provide relief to the affected entrepreneurs, businessmen, and general public.
