Major Highways Blocked Due to Rain-Induced Landslides and Floods

Kathmandu. Due to continuous rainfall, floods and landslides have blocked various major highways across the country. According to Nepal Police data, transportation has been affected on various road sections in Kosi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.

In some places, roads are completely blocked, while in others, they are only open for one-way traffic. Due to the risk of floods, driving on some highways at night has also been prohibited.

In Kosi Province, the Mechi Highway (Rajduwali section) in Ilam is completely blocked due to landslides. Similarly, the Ranke-Ravi-Bhedetar road section in Panchthar is also completely closed. In Bhojpur and Khotang, the Mid-Hill Highway is only open for one-way traffic due to landslides, the police informed.

In Bagmati Province, considering security sensitivities, vehicles are stopped at specific times on major highways. On the BP Highway's Kavre section, vehicles are prohibited from operating from 6 PM to 4 AM due to the possibility of floods. Similarly, on the Kanti Lokpath's Makwanpur section, traffic is also closed from 5 PM to 5 AM.

In Sindhupalchok, the Arniko Highway's Zero Kilo and Kodari sections are completely blocked by landslides, while the Pasang Lhamu road section in Rasuwa is only open for one-way traffic.

In Gandaki Province, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung and the Arughat-Machhikhola road section in Gorkha are completely blocked due to landslides. In Karnali Province, the Bheri Corridor (Jajarkot-Dolpa road) in Jajarkot is also completely closed due to landslides.

Efforts are underway to clear the debris and open the roads, but the adverse weather is causing problems. The police have urged travelers to contact the concerned district police office or highway control room to inquire about road conditions before embarking on long-distance journeys.
