Assault on doctors case: Government forms negotiation committee

KATHMANDU, Sep 17: The government has formed a negotiation committee to negotiate with the Nepal Medical Association, who are currently in protest.

The five-member committee was formed by Health and Population Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet under the coordination of Additional Secretary Dr. Vikas Devkota, Joint Secretary Tulasinath Gautam informed. 

It was formed with joint secretaries from the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs as its members.

The committee has called the doctors for negotiation immediately. The Nepal Medical Association has closed all health services except emergency services demanding action against those who assaulted the doctors.

The Association's decision comes as an organized pressure to seek action against those involved in the physical assault on two doctors at Sancho Hospital in Hetauda on September 13.
