Maoist Center's decision to form unity team welcomed by CPN, NSP

Kathmandu, January 10 — The decision by the CPN (Maoist Center) to form a high-level negotiation team for unity among like-minded leftist forces has been described as a positive step by leaders supporting party unification.

The Maoist Central Committee meeting, held from January 5 to 7 in Dhumbarahi, decided to form a high-level committee to advance party unification. Mahindra Ray Yadav, the President of the Nepal Socialist Party, responded positively to the Maoist decision.

Yadav stated that since an agreement had already been reached regarding party unification, the process would now move forward following the Maoist initiative.

He added, “The decision to form a high-level committee for party unification is positive. There have already been two to three rounds of discussions. We have not stepped back from unification.” Yadav further clarified that once the Maoists form the committee, they will proceed accordingly.

Yadav also assured that there was no issue regarding the party's name as it had already been agreed upon. Regarding when the unification would occur, he stated that it would depend on the Maoist party's decisions.

On March 16, an agreement was made between the two parties at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar to unite.

Similarly, Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma, spokesperson for the Communist Party of Nepal, also called the Maoist decision to form a high-level committee for party unity a positive step. However, he mentioned that it was premature to comment further, as the modality of the unification process has not been clearly defined yet.

He explained, “The decision to form a high-level committee for advancing the unity process is a positive step, but clarity regarding the modality and how the unification will take place is still lacking. Once the Maoist Center clarifies its position, it would be appropriate to give further comments.”
