Miss Nepal World KC praises CREASION's role in tackling plastic pollution

Kathmandu, December 28 — Miss Nepal World 2024 Ashma KC has lauded Project CAP (Collaborative Approach for Preventing Plastic Leakages in Rivers of Nepal) for its collaborative effort to combat plastic pollution.

Following the site visit and observation of project CAP activities in Bharatpur, KC expressed her satisfaction with CREASION's critical role in preventing plastic pollution by collaborating with major stakeholders, including marginalised communities.

"It felt enormously ecstatic to learn that CREASION, through project CAP, is not only preventing plastic pollution in Chitwan National Park and River but also significantly improving Bote community livelihoods by teaching them how to generate income from recycling plastics," she said.

"Following the capacity-building training, the Bote community has put their knowledge into action. Equipped with bottle collection nets provided during the training, they now organise weekly clean-ups along riverbanks and within their community," said Ujjwal Upadhayay, Team Leader of the Project CAP.

"By collecting plastic bottles and other waste, they are creating cleaner, healthier environments. This initiative is a powerful step toward sustainability, with local action driving a lasting impact on plastic pollution," he added.

The Bote community, deeply connected to rivers through fishing and traditional livelihoods, has been working to tackle plastic waste threatening their environment. Through Project CAP, they’ve gained skills and resources to address river pollution, preserving their heritage while promoting sustainability.

Sujata Koirala, General Secretary of CREASION Nepal, emphasised that her support strengthens our collaborative approach to cleaner rivers and a more sustainable future. “Together, with the power of community and innovation, we can make a real difference," she said.

Project CAP is funded by the PLEASE (Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia), implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme, supported by the World Bank, and with implementation support from UNOPS.
