Livestock insurance to be made effective
Kathmandu - The Ministry of Livestock Development and the Poverty Alleviation Fund have agreed to make effective the livestock insurance.
An agreement was signed between the Ministry and the PAF on Sunday for the same. It is aimed at promoting the livestock sector in the country. The agreement has the provision of conducting effective programmes to the targeted communities.
Similarly, the agreement further aims at removing the duplicity and ensuring highly skilled manpower services to the farmers.
The livestock raising community institutions operated through the financial support of the PAF should compulsorily implement the insurance while promoting the livestock.
Under the agriculture and livestock insurance scheme, farmers would be directly benefited on the services and marketing their products as well.
The agreement was signed between Joint Secretary at the Ministry Dr Keshab Prasad Premi, and Executive Director of the PAF Nahakul KC.
On the occasion, Dr Premi expressed hope that resources and technology within both the Ministry and PAF would be exchanged.
Similarly, KC said the agreement would give an effective guideline for eradicating poverty through livestock farming.
The PAF covers approximately 900,000 households from 55 districts through 32,360 community organisations.
Besides, it has launched creative programmes in three districts, targeting impoverished people.
Out of Rs 14 billion channelised through the Fund, approximately Rs 8 billion (60 percent of the amount) has been invested in livestock farming.
