Flood affects some 100,000 people in Saptari

Rajbiraj - Floods triggered by incessant rainfall in different river and rivulets have affected 100,000 people of some 20,000 families in Saptrai district.

More than 4,000 people have been displaced by the floods. Various settlements including Rampura Malhaniya, Sakarpura and Banarjhula have been completely inundated.

A local Chandan Yadav said that the flooded Khando rivulet had inundated some 1,000 houses at Rampura Malhaniya and 899 houses at Sakarpura.

The flood survivors have been taking shelter at schools and are compelled to spend nights with empty stomach, said Yadav.

Some 200 families have been taking shelter at the Koiladi school and have not yet got relief. Locals have been facing problem in their movement as the flood has inundated many villages and eroded villages from all sides.

Similarly, flood and landslide have also obstructed different rural and city roads following the incessant rainfall.

Govt. urged to declare Saptari as crisis-hit zone

A meeting of the District Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Committee, Saptari, demanded that the government declare Saptari district as crisis-hit zone.

The meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer and Committee Chairman Bhagirath Pandey demanded that the district be declared as crisis-hit zone as the flood had made extensive damages in the district and problem has been surfaced in rescue and relief distribution.

Calling the donor agencies including World Food Programme for support, the Committee urged to make relief distribution systematic.
